QUALIFIER LIST
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Senior
Kirsten O'Malley (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) of the Bloomsburg University women's track and field team has been selected to participate in the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. O'Malley is scheduled to compete in the triple jump on Saturday, March 9, beginning at 6:55 p.m.
The championships will be held on Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9, in Pittsburg, Kansas at the Robert W. Plaster Center. Pittsburg State University and the Crawford County Convention & Visitors Bureau will serve as co-hosts of the championships. A total of 540 participants - 270 men and 270 women - will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.
O'Malley enters the national indoor meet with the ninth-best mark in the triple jump this season. She posted an indoor school-record jump of 12.24 meters at the Houghton December Classic back on Friday, December 7. The mark broke her previous record of 12.12 meters she established at last year's NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. The jump earned her a tenth-place finish and Second Team All-American honors.
This past Saturday, O'Malley finished third at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in the event, posting a mark of 11.62 meters. She was also a member of the 4x800-meter relay team that won the conference title with a time of 9:27.84 and earned podium spots in the 4x400-meter relay (seventh) and the long jump (eighth).
It marks the second consecutive season that O'Malley has been selected to participate at the indoor championships after her tenth-place result last year. O'Malley also competed in the long jump at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Bradenton, Florida. She finished 20th in the country in that event.
Cierra Pulliam of Lewis enters as the top seed in the event with a distance of 13.10 meters. West Texas A&M's Fatim Affessi is second at 12.88 meters while Lincoln's Diana Cauldwell rounds out the top three at 12.77 meters.
