MILLERSVILLE, PA – Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) and Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Colegio de La Asuncion Malaga) were victorious at fourth and fifth singles, respectively, but the Bloomsburg University men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to Millersville University Saturday afternoon. The Huskies drop to 2-4 overall, and 0-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with the loss, while the Marauders improve to 1-2 in the conference and 3-12 overall with the win.
Locked in a 3-3 tie with just one match remaining, Carlos Martinez-Lucas would clinch the victory for the Marauders with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 three-set victory over a Lucas Pedrotti (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Sao Jose) at first singles. Peter Landis earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Escolapios) at #2 singles, and Frank Yanni downed Bernardo Abreu (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Rogedo) 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at #3, but the Huskies would punch back with a pair of wins from Tauber and Wiesemann in the third and fourth singles matches. Tauber earned a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Ben Fellman, and Wiesemann defeated Jose Alcazar 6-3, 6-1. Rodrigo Lorencin claimed the other singles point with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrews (Fla.)) at #6 singles.
The Huskies earned the doubles point after Pedrotti and Abreu defeated Martinez-Lucas and Landis, 6-2, and Carranza and Walle earned a 6-1 victory over Fellman and Alcazar. The loss snaps a Huskies win streak over the Marauders that began exactly six years ago on March 30, 2013.
Bloomsburg returns to action this Wednesday at West Chester University. First serve with the Golden Rams is set for 3:30 p.m.
