BLOOMSBURG HUSKIES vs. KUTZTOWN GOLDEN BEARS

THE STORY
• The Bloomsburg University women's and men's tennis teams return to action Saturday with a key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) battle at Kutztown University. The women's team is riding a four-match win streak after consecutive 7-0 victories over East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg last week, while the men's team is looking to bounce pair from a pair of losses to Mercyhurst and Edinboro.
THE HUSKIES AT A GLANCE
• Four members of the women's team have recorded double-digit wins in singles play this season. Junior
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) is 12-5 overall, while
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) are tied with 11 wins apiece. Junior
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) is 10-2 overall and enters the weekend on a six-match singles win streak. Sophomore
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and sophomore
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) have recorded nine and eight wins, respectively.
• In doubles action, Calimer and Nery have teamed up for an 11-4 overall record while Bonito and Capoferri are 10-5 overall. Senior
Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) and Sarquis have gone 6-3 overall, primarily at #3.
• On the men's side,
Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrews (Fla.)) is 8-4 overall to pace the Huskies, while
Lucas Pedrotti (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Sao Jose) is 7-5 in the lead singles spot this season.
Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) is 6-7 on the year, and
Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Escolapios) and
Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Colegio Alemán de Málaga, Spain) have notched five wins apiece.
• Pedrotti and
Bernardo Abreu (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Rogedo) are 12-2 overall at #1 doubles and have won their last five matches (nine of their last 10), while Wiesemann and
Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/Furst Johann Ludwig Schule) are 6-4 overall as a tandem. Carranza and Walle have teamed for five wins on the season.
SCOUTING KUTZTOWN
• 2019 has been a struggle for the Golden Rams women's tennis team, who enters the day at just 3-10 overall, and 1-2 in the PSAC. Sarah Grebosky has a team-high five wins to lead Kutztown in singles action, while Catherine Maher, Alicia Pursell, and Jillian Siefert each have three wins. Siefert and Ashley Carter have tallied three wins as a doubles pairing, and Pursell and Yasmeen Malik have two wins in doubles competition.
• The men's team has struggled this season as well, bringing a 1-13 (1-3 PSAC) record into Saturday's match. Nolan Perugini is 8-8 in singles competition, primarily in the lead singles position, while Renato Santos is 7-7 at #2 singles. Josh Carl has four singles victories from the #3 position. Santos and Perugini pace the Golden Bears in doubles action with five wins, while Perugini has also teamed with Carl for four victories.
LOOKING AHEAD
• Following this weekend, the Huskies will return to action on Thursday, April 25, against Wilkes University. First serve with the Colonels is set for 4:30 p.m. from the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
