THE STORY
• The Bloomsburg University women's and men's tennis teams step out of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action to host Wilkes University Thursday at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The women's team is riding a five-match win streak after three consecutive shutout victories over East Stroudsburg, Shippensburg, and Kutztown, while the men's team bounced back from back-to-back defeats to earn a crucial 4-3 victory over Kutztown Saturday. With the victories over the Golden Bears, both teams clinched berths in the upcoming PSAC Tournament.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
• Junior Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) was named the PSAC East Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career after powering the Huskies to their sixth consecutive postseason berth with an impressive 7-0 victory over Kutztown. Capoferri waltzed to a 6-0, 6-1 win at #1 singles, and teamed with Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) to win 6-0 at #2 doubles. Sophomore Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/Furst Johann Ludwig Schule) was named the PSAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week after helping the Huskies clinch their fourth consecutive PSAC tournament appearance Saturday. Luetzig did not drop a single game against Kutztown, earning a 6-0, 6-0 singles victory and a 6-0 win at #3 doubles with partner Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrews (Fla.)).

THE HUSKIES AT A GLANCE
• Junior Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) is 13-5 overall this season, while Capoferri, Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area), and junior Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) are all tied with 11 wins apiece.  Nery is 11-2 overall and enters the weekend riding a seven-match singles win streak. Bonito and sophomore Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) have recorded ten and nine wins, respectively. In doubles action, Calimer and Nery have teamed up to a post a team-best 12-4 overall record, while Bonito and Capoferri are 11-5 overall. Senior Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) and Sarquis have gone 7-3, primarily in the #3 doubles spot.

• On the men's side, Lucas Pedrotti (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Sao Jose) and Walle are tied for the team-lead in wins with eight apiece. Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) is 7-7 overall, while Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Colegio Alemán de Málaga, Spain) and Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Escolapios) have notched six and five wins, respectively. Pedrotti and Bernardo Abreu (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Rogedo) are 12-3 overall at #1 doubles, and Wiesemanna and Luetzig have teamed up to go 6-4 as a tandem this season. 

SCOUTING WILKES
• The Colonels women's tennis team sits atop the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Division with a 10-3 overall record, and 4-0 conference mark. Erin Volutza leads the team in singles action with 15 wins, while Rachel Thomas has notched 12 victories, and Alexa Cieri has gone a perfect 10-0 on the year. Jordan Vasarkovy and Dasha Yakhnis have gone 8-4 in doubles action to pace the team, while Vasarkovy has also teamed up with Dana Saliyev to go 5-1 this season.

• The men's team has been equally impressive this season, boasting a 10-5 (5-0 MAC Freedom) record into Thursday's matchup. Courtney Murphy leads the way in singles competition with a 15-5 record, primarily in the lead singles position. Chris Maderitz and Larry Scartz have posted 12 and 11 wins in singles action, respectively. Andrew MacDonald and Murphy have teamed up in doubles competition to go 10-4 on the year, and Maderitz and Jonathan White  are 7-4 in the #2 doubles spot.

LOOKING AHEAD
• The Huskies will wrap up the 2019 regular season at home against West Liberty University this Saturday, April 27. Following Saturday's contest, the women will play Millersville in the PSAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 30, while the men will play in the PSAC Semifinals on Friday, May 3. Bloomsburg will host the 2019 PSAC Tournament at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. First serve with West Liberty is set for 12:00 p.m. Saturday.
