ETTRICK, Va. - The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team opened the weekend in strong fashion on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 victory at Virginia State University in a non-conference matchup. The Huskies evened their record at 4-4 on the season with the victory while the Trojans dropped to 1-4-1 on the year.
Bloomsburg started by claiming the doubles point after taking two of the three doubles matches. Freshman
Quin Bucheit (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) and sophomore
Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) earned a default victory at #3 while sophomore
Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/Furst Johann Ludwig Schule) and freshman
Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Colegio de La Asuncion Malaga) teamed up for a 6-1 win over Josh McFadden and Alexzander Walker at #2 to secure the opening point of the match. Virginia State's duo of Sultan Kenes and Jonathan Fuchs avoided the sweep with a 6-3 victory at #1.
In singles action, Luetzig gave Bloomsburg a 2-0 lead with a default victory at #6 and then sophomore
Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrews (Fla.)) brought the Huskies to within a point of securing the win by posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Keon Halley at #4. Wiesemann clinched the team win with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of McFadden at #3.
Kenes broke up the Huskies' shutout bid with a 6-0, 6-2 win over
Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Escolapios) at #1 before Bucheit and Tauber closed out the afternoon with straight-set victories at #5 and #2, respectively.
Bloomsburg will be back in action on Sunday with a non-conference matchup at Shepherd University to close out the weekend. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
