LEXINGTON, Ky. - The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Monday that the Bloomsburg University volleyball team was one of 1,275 collegiate and high school teams to have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2020-2021 season.
Â
"Even though teams might not have played during their usual season or may not have competed at all during the past year, coaches still found ways to lead their players to academic excellence," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "This is a testament to the important role volleyball coaches play in their players' success both on and off the court."
Â
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
Â
The BU volleyball posted a 3.338 team GPA for the academic year. It is the second-straight year the Huskies have earned the AVCA team academic honor.
Â
Bloomsburg is one of 162 NCAA DII teams to earn the honor and 11 teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The other schools to be honored include California University of Pennsylvania, Clarion, Edinboro, Gannon, Mercyhurst, Millersville, Seton Hill, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester.
Â
The Huskies are ready to get on the court after a year off and are set to open their season on September 4, 2021, at the St. Anselm/SNHU Tournament.
