BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The men's tennis team hosted their final event of the fall over the weekend as the Bloomsburg Invitational took place at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on Bloomsburg's upper campus.
The invitational saw quite some success from several men's tennis players, both in singles and doubles competitions. Four sets of teams won matches in doubles competitions while eight individuals were victorious during men's singles competitions.
In doubles,
Scott Redmond (Paget, Bermuda/Warwick Academy) and
Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Deutsche Schule Málaga (Spain)) teamed up to win a first-round match over a Frostburg tandem, as did the duo of
Landon Wall (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca High School) and
Victor Martinez (Barcelona, Spain/Padre Damian Sagrados Corazones). After winning their first-round match by a score of 6-0, Wall and Martinez also ran away with a second-round match by winning that competition 6-3.
The third round of doubles matches saw Wiesemann win his second competition of the day, but this time he teamed up with
Vishesh Patel (Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India/Asia English School) to pull off the victory. Another third-round match saw
Chaitanya Choudhary (Karnal, Haryana, India/St. Theresa's Convent) and
Arnav Sharma (Haryana,India/Suncity School) beat a Frostburg tandem 6-4.
The singles competition was highlighted by Sharma and Wiesemann winning two matches in three rounds of competition.
Albert Martin (Barcelona/Instituto Menendez y Pelayo),
Fernando Barros (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Hoosac School), Choudhary, Wall, Martinez and Redmond all won one singles match.
The invitational caps off the fall season for the 2022-23 men's tennis team, and the team will have three months off until their next play date. The Huskies will return to the courts this spring with their first scheduled competition being at St. Francis (Pa.) on February 4.
