BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's and women's tennis teams are set to host the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Championships this weekend at the Burt Reese Tennis Center located at the Steph Pettit Athletic Complex on upper campus.
The three-day event will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, then the championships are scheduled to continue on Sunday and Monday with 9:00 AM starting times. Every day will begin with doubles events and then continue into singles matches.
For the Huskies,
Sergio Dilan (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cedin) and
Iu Casamitjana (Igualada, Spain/Escola Pia Igualada) will be representing the men's team in singles competitions. Dilan will be playing Andre Zequeira of West Chester, and Casamitjana is matched up against Edinboro's Gustavo Martins in the Round of 16.
Fernando Barros (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Hoosac School),
Vishesh Patel (Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India/Asia English School),
Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Deutsche Schule Málaga (Spain)) and
Albert Martin (Barcelona/Instituto Menendez y Pelayo) will serve as alternates.
In a men's doubles competition, Wiesemann and Patel will pair up to play Kutztown's Gonzalo Barcelo and Joaquin Perez in a quarterfinal matchup.
For the women, a pair of players will represent the Huskies in singles matches as
Sarah Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and
Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) will compete in the Round of 32. Capoferri will play IUP's Natalie Kmoskova and Ilkovic is matched up against Shippensburg's Kendall Winters.
Lexi Quackenbush (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) is an alternate for singles competitions.
In doubles, the tandem of Quackenbush and
Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College) play against California's (Pa.) Leandra Guldimann and Maria Del Mar Ojeda in a Round of 16 matchup.
The PSAC Individual Tennis Championships were originally scheduled to take place last weekend at the Burt Reese Tennis Center, but the event was postponed one week due to inclement weather.
