BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team will play Edinboro in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Semifinals Friday afternoon at the Burt Reese Tennis Center in Bloomsburg.
The winner will move on to the conference championship, which will be held Saturday in Bloomsburg.
The meeting between Edinboro and Bloomsburg will be the second matchup between the two teams this season. On April 8, the Huskies hosted the Fighting Scots and lost by a final tally of 6-1. Edinboro swept the doubles portion of the match before they won five of the six singles matches to take the five-point win.
In the previous matchup,
Scott Redmond (Paget, Bermuda/Warwick Academy) won the No. 5 singles match, and two of the other five singles matches went to a third set.
Vishesh Patel (Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India/Asia English School) won his first set in the No. 4 singles, but he dropped the next two to be defeated. Oliver Wisemann also won his first set, but he ultimately fell in the tiebreaker set.
Bloomsburg comes into the semifinal round with a conference record of 3-2, which gave the squad a No. 4 seed. Edinboro comes into the tournament as the top seed with a perfect 5-0 conference record. The Fighting Scotts are also 12-5 overall and have won their last seven contests.
Redmond, Wisemann and
Fernando Barros (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Hoosac School) lead the Huskies with three conference wins this season. Overall, Redmond sports an 8-2 record and is tied for the most wins with Wisemann, who also has eight.
In doubles, the tandem of
Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/Furst Johann Ludwig Schule) and Martin Albert is 2-1 against conference opponents. They are tied with the duo of Redmond and Wisemann for the team's best record in doubles against conference opponents. Wisemann and Redmond have a total of five wins together.
Edinboro is led by Ruben Acuna, who has a 16-1 overall record and perfect 5-0 conference record. Thilbault Dorval is also 5-0 in the PSAC and has an 11-4 record. Bruno Sabio is 12-5 overall and 5-0 in the conference. Their next top player is Gustavo Martins, who is 4-1 in conference play and 12-5 overall.
Friday's contest will begin at 11:00 AM. The other semifinal match between Millersville and Mercyhurst will be taking place during the same time at the same venue. The championship round will then begin on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Saturday's championship rounds will be livestreamed on Bloomsburg's athletic website.
