Welcome back to Huskies On The Horizon, a weekly segment where we will provide a brief recap of last week's sporting events and preview the week ahead - including links on where you can follow along with your favorite Bloomsburg University athletic teams!

MEN'S SOCCER
Last Week
The men's soccer team was picked to finish fifth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division by the league's coaches in the conference's annual preseason poll last week.

Millersville was selected as the top team in the East and West Chester was the No. 2 team in the poll. Lock Haven and East Stroudsburg were picked to finish third and fourth while Shippensburg and Shepherd rounded out the poll in sixth and seventh place.Â

The Huskies were chosen to finish fifth in the division after going 9-9 overall in 2021. The team's nine wins under first-year head coach
Mark Bassett were the most for the program since 2015, which was the last time the Huskies qualified for the postseason.

On the Horizon
The Huskies will open their season this weekend with a home game on Saturday against the College of Staten Island. The non-conference game will kick off at 1:00 PM at Steph Pettit Stadium.

2022 Preseason Poll Story

Last Week
The volleyball team was projected to finish fifth in the PSAC East in the conference's preseason poll last week.Â

East Stroudsburg, which finished atop of the PSAC East in 2021, was picked as the top team in the division. Shepherd was chosen second in the poll and West Chester was selected to finish third. Shippensburg was ranked fourth just ahead of Bloomsburg while Millersville, Kutztown and Lock Haven were chosen as the sixth, seventh and eighth teams.Â

The volleyball team's fifth-place ranking comes a year after the Huskies collected a program-high 12 wins and qualified for the postseason for the first time in program history.Â

On the Horizon
The team will begin its 2022 campaign this week on the road with three contests at the California (Pa.) Tournament. Bloomsburg's first game will be against Lake Erie on Friday at 3:00 PM, then the team plays two more contests on Saturday. On Saturday, the Huskies play Frostburg State at 11:00 AM and California (Pa.) at 4:00 PM.Â

The only two teams picked to finish ahead of Bloomsburg were West Chester and Kutztown, which both split a two-way tie for first place in the poll. Millersville was chosen to finish fourth and East Stroudsburg was projected to finish fifth. Shippensburg, Shepherd, Lock Haven and Mansfield rounded out the poll.

The third-place ranking in the preseason poll for Bloomsburg comes a year after the Huskies finished 16-5-2 overall, won the conference, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The team's PSAC title was the program's second in three years, and the NCAA Tournament appearance was Bloomsburg's third straight.

In the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll, which was released two weeks ago, the Huskies were one of several teams outside of the Top 25 receiving votes in the national poll.Â

On the Horizon
The Huskies open their season with two home games this week. The squad's first contest will be against Mercyhurst on Thursday at Steph Pettit Stadium. Then on Sunday, Bloomsburg will host Goldey-Beacom for another non-conference game at Steph Pettit Stadium. Both games are scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
