CARLISLE, Pa. – The women's swim team placed second out of three teams at two meets Saturday at the Keystone Aquatic Center in Carlisle, Pa.
The squad posted solid times in both events as they scored 345.5 points during the second day of the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Invitational and 308 points during the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Last Chance Invitational.
The Huskies competed against Millersville and Indiana (Pa.) in both events. Millersville placed first in the team standings in both events while IUP finished third.
A total of three Huskies won events in both invitationals as
Anna Sugra (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor),
Courtney Hubric (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and
Gabi Walsh (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) placed first in three separate competitions.
Sugra won the 100-yard breaststroke during the Pidgeon Invitation with a time of 1:10.40. During the same invite, Hubric placed first in the 50-yard freestyle by posting a mark of 24.70 in the finals.
In the PSAC Last Chance Invite, the Huskies had a big day in the 200-yard backstroke, which was led by Walsh. Walsh finished first with a time of 2:11.02, which was just head of her teammate Maddie Osanitsch, who placed second with a mark of 2:11.05. In third and fourth were another pair of Husky swimmers as
Grace Beierschmitt (Dover, Pa./Dover) was third with a time of 2:12.72 and Ali Lehman was fourth with a mark of 2:18.81.
Osanitsch had a solid race in the 200-yard IM during the Pidgeon Invite, posting a time of 2:15.54 to place third, which was less than a second behind of first-place finisher Jordan Plempel of Millersville, who won the event with a mark of 2:14.79.
Walsh had a similar race in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing third with a time of 1:01.13 and less than one second from the top finisher. IUP's Amber Baldani won the event with a time of 1:00.65.
The Bloomsburg 400-yard freestyle relay team also had a solid day. The quadrant of
Rylee Wenzel (West Lawn, PA/Wilson High School),
Katie Eisenhofer (Reading, PA/Schuylkill Valley), Hubric and
Sydney Lloyd (Nescopeck, Pa./Berwick) posted a time of 3:42.76, which was good enough for second place in the event. Millersville's relay team placed first with a mark of 3:41.89.
The women's swim team will be back in action with a meet at East Stroudsburg on Saturday, Jan. 28. The event will begin at 1:00 PM.
