YORK, Pa. – The women's swim team sits in third place in the team standings of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships after having three top-eight finishers and two top-three placements in relay events Thursday at the Graham Aquatic Center in York.
The Huskies currently have 408 points following the second day of the PSAC Championships and sit right behind Indiana (Pa.), which has 461 points. West Chester sits in first with 790 points.
Bloomsburg's highest placement of the day was
Madison Osanitsch (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg)'s fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Osanitsch shaved half of a second off her seed time with a mark of 1:53.91. In the C Finals of the 200-yard free,
Anna Sugra (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) placed seventh in the heat with a time of 1:58.55.
The evening session began with a strong performance from Bloomsburg's 200-yard freestyle relay as it placed second.
Rylee Wenzel (West Lawn, PA/Wilson High School),
Sydney Lloyd (Nescopeck, Pa./Berwick),
Grace Beierschmitt (Dover, Pa./Dover) and
Courtney Hubric (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) teamed up to finish the event with a time of 1:34.66.
The Huskies had three swimmers compete in two different heats of the 400 IM. In the B Finals,
Tara Kupsky (Bear Creek Township, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) had a strong performance and shaved nearly two seconds off of her seed time when she finished with a time of 4:41.47 to place fourth in her heat (12
th overall). In the C Finals,
Taleah Ruben (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) won the heat and placed 17
th overall with her mark of 4:45.00, which was 2.39 seconds faster than her seed time.
Catie Strayer (York, PA/Central York) was the third and final Husky to compete in a 400 IM final, placing sixth (22
nd overall) in her heat with a time of 4:53.59.
Bloomsburg gained a handful of big points in the 100-yard butterfly, which was highlighted by a pair of top-eight finishes by Wenzel and Lloyd in the A Finals. Wenzel was seventh with a time of 58.09 and Lloyd was eighth with a time of 58.65. In the B Finals, Beierschmitt was fourth in the heat (12
th overall) with a mark of 58.48, and
Maggie Shaffer (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield) was eighth (59.74) in the heat and 16
th overall.
Prior to the finals taking place, Beierschmitt was presented with a plaque for receiving the PSAC Sportsmanship Award.
Three more Huskies competed in the C Finals of the 100 fly as
Gabi Walsh (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown),
Katie Eisenhofer (Reading, PA/Schuylkill Valley) and
Courtney Hubric (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) all swam. Walsh finished second in the heat (59.04) and 18
th overall while Eisenhofer was seventh (1:00.50) in the heat and Hubric was eighth (1:01.49).
In the final relay event of the night, Bloomsburg closed out Day 2 with a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Walsh, Sugra, Wenzel and Hubric teamed up to finish with a time of 3:55.31.
The third day of the PSAC Championships will take place on Thursday. The competitions begin with preliminary events taking place at 10:00 AM and finals will start at 6:00 PM.
