SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Bloomsburg men's track and field team competed at the River Hawk Invite on Saturday. The Huskies totaled 12 podium finishes, including four first-place performances.
The highlight of the day was the effort by freshman Christopher Brittingham (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) in the 60-meter sprint. Brittingham qualified for the final in a time of 7.00 to break the previous record set in 2012. The sprinter followed up by taking third in the final in 7.01. The freshman was joined by classmate Xavier Diaz (Mount Carmel, Pa./Mount Carmel) in the final, who improved his personal best time to 7.09 for a fifth-place finish.
Brittingham's day was not over there, returning to the track to claim first in the 400-meter race for a personal-best 51.77. Finnegan Purtle (/) (7th) and Brady Dowell (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) (9th) earned top-10 finishes.
Elsewhere on the track, Bloomsburg continued to compile strong performances. Caden Dufrene (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run High School) and Peyton Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) took first and third in the mile run. Dufrene secured the top spot on the podium with a time of 4:34.5. Riley finished just .06 off of second, crossing the line in 4:37.45. The Huskies had six of the top 11 finishers in the event, including Brackton Parrish (Charlotte, N.C./William Amos Hough) (6th), Salahudinn Abdul-Hamid (State College/State College Area) (8th), Aaron Simpson (/) (10th) and Jordan Mann (Kunkletown, Pa./Palmerton) (11th). Parrish (4:56.4) and Abdul-Hamid (4:57.79) each posted personal-best times.
Bloomsburg claimed another two spots on a podium, finishing second and third in the 60-meter hurdles. Brady Deivert (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) finished in front of teammate Justin Herrmann (/) in the finishing order. Deivert took over .1 off his qualifying time for a new personal best of 8.77. Hermann crossed the line in 8.81. William Burdett (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) was the third Husky to qualify for the final, registering a personal-best 9.16 in the effort.
Peter Tepper (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) brought home another victory for Bloomsburg, doing so in the 800 meters in 2:00.59. Tepper additionally was a part of the Huskies' top-performing 4x400-meter team with Parrish, Riley and Sean Clare (Athens, Pa./Athens Area). The team finished fifth in 3:41.25, edging out the team of Jalik Hill (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon), Purtle, Bryce Patillo (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area) and Brittingham in sixth at 3:41.81.
In the field events, Bloomsburg continued to see solid efforts. Daniel Ajuz (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Zhamir Rowan (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) finished second and third for the Huskies In the long jump. Ajuz exceeded his previous personal-best mark of 6.68 meters with a jump of 6.77 meters (22' 2.5") for second place. Rowan set his collegiate mark at 6.60 meters (21' 8") for third place. Lucas Antal (/) placed 10th with a jump of 6.12 meters (20' 1").
The Bloomsburg jumpers continued their momentum into the triple jump with a first-place effort from Trevor Johnson (Kintnersville, Pa./Palisades, Pa.). Johnson topped the podium with a mark of 13.04 meters (42' 9.5"). Landon Kester () finished eighth with a jump of 11.98 meters (39' 3.75").
Turning to the throwing events, Jack Donchez (Bethlehem/Liberty High School) earned a spot on the podium with a third-place performance. Donchez recorded a mark of 13.63 meters (44' 8.75") on his final throw to clinch a podium position. In the shot put, Kaleb Zimmerman (Lancaster, Pa./Garden Spot) placed seventh with a throw of 13.01 meters (42' 8.25").
Tyler Lobos (/) and Dillon Steffy (Elliotsburg, Pa./West Perry High School) competed for a place on the podium in the pole vault, with Lobos getting the edge on attempts. Both vaulters posted marks of 3.85 meters (12' 7.5") in the event. Andrew Kane (/) took eighth in the event with a mark of 3.55 meters (11' 7.75").
