KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Bloomsburg men's soccer stays put at No. 13 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II National Poll. Following a 2-0 week, the 6-0-5 Huskies remain No. 2 in the Atlantic region.
Bloomsburg opened its week by handing 7-0-5 a 1-0 defeat in a battle of unbeaten sides in Super Region 1. The Huskies had the better of possession for a majority of the midweek contest, with Sam Blumberger (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) capitalizing on an opportunity from a corner to come away with an acrobatic finish and the game-winning goal. Sean Blatz (Whispering Pines, N.C./Union Pines) came up with a clutch stop in the final seconds, making a timely kick save to secure the victory and the shutout.
Bloomsburg jumped back into PSAC action with a 3-1 win over Shepherd on Saturday. The victory marked the most goals scored by the Huskies in a match this season, with the team continuing to capitalize on dead-ball situations. A pair of early long-throws from Micah Diggs (Groton, Conn./Fitch) set up two goals inside seven minutes for Bloomsburg, with Connor Fiadino (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) and Zayd DeVeaux (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) netting their first goals as part of the Huskies. After an early second-half score from the Rams, Caleb Sitler (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) netted the insurance goal to give the Huskies a two-goal decision.
For his efforts as part of a staunch defensive backline, Owen Peri (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) became the third defensive field player and fourth overall to receive PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors. Peri helped limit two of the most prominent goal scorers in the country, as Archie Murphy of Roberts Wesleyan and Josh Petty of Shepherd, with a combined 20 goals, were held scoreless across Bloomsburg's two contests. Peri additionally recorded his first career assist in the Huskies' game against the Rams', setting up the team's game-winning effort.
Bloomsburg returns to the field on Wednesday, October 22, with a matchup against Shippensburg before hitting the road to take on West Chester on Saturday, October 25.
