.LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – After recording back-to-back shutouts to start the season,
Samantha Merklin (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Defensive Athlete of the Week by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The senior goalkeeper has gotten off to a brilliant start for the Huskies, notching 12 saves in a pair of shutout victories this week.

The highlight of Merklin's performance this week came in Bloomsburg's 4-0 win at home against West Virginia State. The senior recorded nine saves in the match while earning her 100th career save with the Huskies in the process. Her 11th shutout in the maroon and gold moved Merklin into tenth in program history in just 21 games played.

The Effort, Pa.-native also recorded three saves in the season opener as Bloomsburg took down Queens College, 1-0.

This is Merklin's fifth career athlete of the week honor.

Merklin and the Huskies return to action on Wednesday, September 10 as they host Mansfield at 6 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium.
