LORETTO, Pa. – The Bloomsburg Huskies men's tennis men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to the Saint Francis Red Flash men's tennis on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Â
Bloomsburg competed against a strong Division I lineup and continued to gain valuable early-season experience, battling throughout doubles and singles play despite the final result. The Huskies showed fight across the lineup, pushing points deep and staying engaged from the opening serve through the final courts.
Â
Saint Francis claimed the doubles point after wins at No. 1 and 2 positions to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles. The Huskies won at No. 3 doubles as
Alejandro Higuera (Ciudad Obregon, Mexico/Colegio Weston) and
Landon Wall (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca High School) pushed their opponents to a tie-break. Higuera and Wall won 7-6 (12-10) after a hard-fought doubles match.
Â
The Red Flash added six singles victories to secure the sweep, but the Huskies continued to compete aggressively and looked to build momentum in several tight stretches during the match.
Â
Denis Dementev (Saint-Petersburg, Russia/Russian Gymnasium at the State Russian Museum) dropped the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to Titus Suresh who proved to be a tough opponent for the top singles match.
Â
The match provides another early benchmark for Bloomsburg as the Huskies continue preparing for conference play and the heart of the spring schedule. Bloomsburg returns to action next week looking to apply the lessons learned against high-level competition.
Â
The Huskies return to action on Saturday, February 28 when they host Frostburg State in non-conference action in Hershey, Pa.
