Huskies Lose to Gannon

Trevon Johnson and Ruben Britt combine for 36 points in 84-62 loss

ERIE - The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team lost to Gannon 84-62 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cross-over action on Saturday afternoon.

The game started close as both teams traded baskets in the first three minutes of action. Gannon would stretch its lead to 12-4 at the 16:32 mark before sophomore guard Jesse Betar's (Altoona, Altoona) three-pointer brought the deficit back to five. The Golden Knights would then go on a 13-2 run over the next 6:19 to take a 25-9 lead before going up 40-25 headed into halftime.

The Huskies would come out hot, cutting Gannon's lead to 42-31 with a 10-2 run in the second half's first 2:36. The run included six points by sophomore guard Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD, Snow Hill). Bloomsburg would then cut Gannon's lead to 10 with 15:58 left when freshman forward Ed Hall (Spencerville, Paint Branch) connected on a free throw after a fast break layup and foul.

The Golden Knights would then go on a 14-3 run, increasing their lead to 60-39 with 8:24 remaining. A layup and foul shot by Betar with 4:25 left would bring the Huskies back to within 14 before eventually losing.

Johnson led the Huskies with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting, going 7-of-10 from the foul line. Senior guard Ruben Britt (Voorhees, NJ, Eastern Regional) finished with 17 points, going 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

The Huskies (6-5) return to action tomorrow when they play at Clarion. Tip-off is 3:00 p.m.
