Wrestling Finishes 2-1 at Northeast Duals

TROY, N.Y.-Nate Graham (Selkirk, NY, Ravena), the No. 23 wrestler in the nation at 184 pounds, was the only Husky to record three wins, as the Bloomsburg University wrestling team came away with two wins and a loss at the 2010 Journeymen/Asics Northeast Duals.

In the day's first match, the Huskies faced the Patriots of George Mason University. The round was headlined by a matchup between BU's Graham and GMU's 19th-ranked Bagna Tovuujav. Neither wrestler was able to gain significant control, and a pair of exchanged escapes took the bout to sudden victory tied 1-1. In the first overtime period, Graham scored a takedown and secured a 3-1 decision.

Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ, Middlesex) and Zac Walsh (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls) scored falls, as
Bloomsburg won five of the seven contested bouts and came away with an easy 34-12 victory.

In Bloomsburg's second round, the team faced American University. The Eagles' lineup featured four nationally-ranked wrestlers, and proved to be a formidable challenge for the Huskies. Frank Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC, E.L. Laney) held his own against the nation's top-ranked Steve Fittery at 157 pounds, but eventually lost by decision, 9-4. Hickman would finish 2-1 on the day.

Bloomsburg's Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY, Greene Central) had an impressive win at 133 pounds, defeating AU's Kevin Tao, 10-4. The Huskies remained competitive, trailing 16-10 with two bouts remaining, but American held strong and closed out the match with a 27-10 victory.

Bloomsburg's final opponent was the University of Northern Iowa. The two teams exchanged the early bouts as Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ, St. Marks) and Josh Roosa (Mountaintop, Crestwood) picked up wins at 125 and 149 pounds, respectively. Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) had an exciting 4-2 sudden-victory win at 165, while Dessino's undefeated day came to an end at the hands of UNI's Brice Wolf, who notched a 5-4 win by way of his riding-time point.

Richard Perry (Meriden, CT, Middletown) had his only win of the day with a sudden victory defeat of Andy O'Loughlin at 197 pounds, as the Huskies closed their day of competition with a narrow 18-15 win over the Panthers.

Bloomsburg will next host the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Saturday, October 4. Action is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.
