HAZLETON—Supremacy under the boards proved to be key, as the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team out-rebounded Penn State University-Hazleton by a 45-19 margin en route to a 86-36 victory over the Lions in non-conference action on Monday night. The victory breaks a three-game slide for the Huskies, who improved to 2-3 on the year.
The Huskies got out to a fast start, scoring 23 consecutive points and quickly accruing a 27-2 lead just after midway through the half.
Larry Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton) III (Elkton, MD, Elkton), who had scored 12 of BU's first 27 points, had 16 in the first stanza, shooting 8 of 10 from the field; he would finish with 18 on the evening. By halftime, the Huskies' lead had swelled to 40-15.
In the second period, Bloomsburg's dominance continued, as the Huskies advantage swelled to 52 points at its largest. BU outscored PSU-Hazleton 46-21 in the half, finishing the game with a 50-point lead—the largest margin of victory for the Huskies since their 91-38 win over PSU-Wilkes-Barre last season.
John Schwarz (Delta, Perry Hall) led the way for the Huskies, posting a team-high 19 points with 10 rebounds for his first double-double with Bloomsburg.
Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport, Williamsport) also had a double-double, notching 13 points with 10 rebounds, while
Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD, Snow Hill) added 10 points of his own.
Jesse Betar (Altoona, Altoona) connected on his first three-pointers of the season, going 2 for 2 beyond the arc and tallying six points on the day.
