LEWISBURG--The Bloomsburg University men's indoor track and field team kicked off its 2010-2011 campaign at the Bison Opener hosted by Bucknell University on Saturday.
Jessie Mustapha (Philadelphia, University City) headlined the team's performance, setting a new school record in the 400m.
Mustapha's quarter-mile run was clocked at 51.01, breaking the previous Bloomsburg indoor best of 51.40 set by Derek McDonald in 1995. The sophomore also ran an impressive 23.36 in the 200m race, qualifying for February's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships with his times in both events.
Devin Barr (Pottstown, Pottsgrove) also qualified for the league meet in the 200m, crossing the line in 23.16 seconds. The Huskies' other conference qualifiers were
Matthew Stuck (Milton, Milton), who cleared 4.35m (14' 3.25") in the Pole Vault, and
Jack Rosenstein (Shohola, Delaware Valley) who hurled 13.74m (45' 1") in the Shot Put to punch his ticket to Edinboro.
On Friday, December 10, Bloomsburg will travel to Lehigh University for the
Fast Times before Finals event, which will be the team's final competition before their winter break and training season.
