Bloomsburg Falls to Lander in South Carolina

Huskies have four players with two hits each in 13-10 loss to Bearcats

GREENWOOD, SC-Despite four players each getting two hits the Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a 13-10 decision to Lander University on Tuesday in Greenwood, SC.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second, the Huskies took the lead with a pair of runs scoring on a double by Gino Wise (Mechanicsburg). Lander (13-5) rallied and went on top 8-2 with seven runs over the next three innings.

Bloomsburg tied the score at 8-8 by scoring six runs in the top of the fifth. With one out, Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg) singled and moved to second on a wild-pitch. After a ground out sent Ianiero to third, Tony Donofry (Newtown, Council Rock North) reached on an error with Ianiero scoring. Lloyd then doubled to left with Donofry taking third. Donofry then scored on a wild-pitch to make it 8-4 with Lloyd moving to third. After Seth Pauling (Allenwood, Montgomery) walked, Eric Ebert (Holland, Council Rock South ) singled scoring Lloyd. Wise then singled and moved to second on an error with Pauling coming into score to make it 8-6. Nick Eversole (Lewistown, Indian Valley HS) then walked to load the bases setting the stage for Devin McLaughlin (Bloomsburg, Bloomsburg) driving in two runs with a single to center to tie the game at 8-8.

After Lander came back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth the Huskies made it an 11-9 game when Pauling walked and scored on a double by Ebert in the top of the sixth. The Bearcats came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to lead 13-9.

In the top of the ninth, Wise singled to lead off the inning, moved to second on a ground out. Wise took third on a single by McLaughlin and scored on a wild-pitch with McLaughlin taking second. After Ianiero walked the tying run came to the plate with Chris Tressler (Lewistown, Lewistown). However, the senior grounded into a double play to end the game.

Ianiero, Lloyd, Ebert and Wise all had two hits for Huskies with Ebert, Wise and McLaughlin all driving in two runs. Tyler Gansner (Lancaster) took the loss as he struck out three and walked five.

Bloomsburg (4-11) is scheduled to open PSAC East play this weekend with a pair of games Friday at Shippensburg with the Red Raiders set to play a Bloomsburg on Saturday at 1 p.m.
