Box Score

SLIPPERY ROCK – Allie Kakareka (Royersford, Spring-Ford) scored four goals for the third straight game and Samantha Mazzie (Barto, Boyertown) and Lyndsey Babilon (Boyertown, Boyertown) added three goals apiece as Bloomsburg University defeated Slippery Rock 20-7 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cross-over lacrosse action on Saturday.

The Huskies struck first, getting an unassisted goal from Samantha King (Elkton, MD/North East) 1:23 into the game. The Rock responded with back-to-back goals by Amy Halls less than two minutes apart to take a 2-1 lead less than four minutes in. Bloomsburg then had an offensive explosion, getting eight unanswered goals over the course of 7:24 to break open a 9-2 lead with still more than 17 minutes left in the first half. Six different Huskies scored during the frenzy, with two coming from Kakareka and Samantha Mazzie while Kim Springman (Downingtown, Bishop Shanahan) scored one of the goals and assisted on three others.

Slippery Rock stopped the streak with a goal at the 14:25 mark, but Bloomsburg came back with four unassisted goals to end the half, including two by Babilon.

After a Slippery Rock goal 37 seconds into the second half, the Huskies went on another goal scoring steak, this time getting five in a row to take an 18-4 lead with 17:50 left. The Rock came back with two straight goals but by then the damage had been done and the Huskies cruised to the 13-goal win.

10 players scored at least one goal for the Huskies, including Springman who ended with two goals and four assists. Shelby Iezzi (Pottstown, Owen J. Roberts) and Devyn Mulholland (Turnersville, NJ, Washington Twp.) split time in goal, picking up five saves.

The win helped the Huskies (9-4, 4-2) keep pace with Shippensburg in the PSAC East, as both schools are still tied for second behind undefeated West Chester. Bloomsburg remains on the road, traveling to Millersville on Monday to take on the Marauders.
