Springman, Huskies Win Big on Senior Day

BLOOMSBURG—Kim Springman (Downingtown, Bishop Shanahan) scored three goals and added five assists as Bloomsburg University cruised past Kutztown 23-5 in the regular season Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East finale on Saturday afternoon at Sports Stadium.

The Huskies (12-5, 7-3) started scoring early with goals from Kelsey Metzler (Schwenksville, Perkiomen Valley) and Kelsey Schwan (Burnet Hills, Burnet Hills-Ballston Lake ) just a little over three minutes into the game. After a Golden Bears goal at the 25:12 mark cut their deficit to 2-1, Bloomsburg scored seven unanswered goals, with two each coming from Samantha Mazzie (Barto, Boyertown) and Samantha King (Elkton, MD, North East). Kutztown stopped the streak with a goal at the 3:27 mark but the Huskies closed out the half strong with back-to-back goals by Tia Mazzie (Barto, Boyertown) to take an 11-2 lead.

Bloomsburg started the second half with six goals over the first 12:19 to take a 17-2 lead. Schwan found the back of the net three times as Springman assisted on two of the goals, and Samantha Mazzie scored twice. After the Golden Bears scored at the 14:11 mark, the Huskies closed out the game on a 6-2 run, getting goals from Springman, Lyndsey Babilon (Boyertown, Boyertown), Natalie Draham (Blue Bell, Wissahickon) and Ruth Costanzo (Lancaster, Hempfield).

11 players scored for the Huskies as Schwan and Samantha Mazzie each totaled four goals and King added three goals. Springman's eight points were a career-high. Shelby Iezzi (Pottstown, Owen J. Roberts) and Devyn Mulholland (Turnersville, NJ, Washington Twp.) split time in goal for the Huskies, combining for six saves.

Prior to the game, the Huskies participated in Senior Day, honoring Springman for her four years at Bloomsburg. She came into today's game with 170 career points, scoring 106 goals and assisting on 64 others.

By virtue of finishing second in the PSAC East, the Huskies will host East Stroudsburg in a PSAC quarterfinals matchup on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. Bloomsburg swept its season series with the Warriors, twice winning 13-5.
