BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team will play third-ranked Lock Haven University on Friday, April 30 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) semifinal tournament game. The contest will be played at West Chester University's Vonnie Gros Field with a start time scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $7.00 for adults and $2.00 children and senior citizens.

The Huskies, 13-5, are the second seed out of the Eastern Division and advanced after defeating East Stroudsburg 19-15 on Tuesday. It was Bloomsburg's first postseason win since 2005 and tied the single season school wins record. BU hosted the Warriors, who were the East's third seed, at Sports Stadium. Freshman Samantha Mazzie (Barto, Boyertown) tied a Bloomsburg single game record with 10 points on six goals and four assists while Tia Mazzie (Barto, Boyertown) scored four goals and Samantha King (Elkton, MD, North East) added three.

This will be the 35th meeting with Lock Haven, as the Huskies own a 19-15 all-time advantage. Bloomsburg met the Lady Eagles twice last season, losing 19-11 in the regular season and falling in the PSAC tournament, 21-11.

Allie Kakareka (Royersford, Spring-Ford) has been the Huskies dominant force offensively all season, leading the team with 50 goals and 74 points and is second with 24 assists. She is tied for fifth in the PSAC with 3.00 goals per game and eighth with 4.50 points per game. She has helped Bloomsburg score 263 points in 2010, just six shy of the school record set one year ago. She has twice been named the PSAC East Player of the Week and scored a career-high six goals in a win over Millersville earlier this season.

Second in goals scored this season is King with 44, while Samantha Mazzie is second in overall scoring with 61 points, coming on 41 goals and 20 assists. Bloomsburg's lone senior, Kim Springman (Downingtown, Bishop Shanahan), is third in scoring with 50 points, scoring 22 goals and assisting on a team-high 28 others. She had a career-high eight points in the season finale against Kutztown. Tia Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) has 24 goals and 16 assists, while a trio of freshmen round out the Huskies double-digit goal scorers: Lyndsey Babilon (Boyertown, Boyertown) (23 goals), Sarah Bennett (Gilbertsville, Boyertown) (12) and Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim, Springfield) (11).

Shelby Iezzi (Pottstown, Owen J. Roberts) has been outstanding in goal for Bloomsburg with a goals against average of 8.63 and a PSAC-leading .548 save percentage. She has 11 games this season where she has allowed seven goals or less, including six of the last eight games.

Defensively, junior Ashley Bowers (Springfield, Springfield), a 2008 All-American, has turned in another outstanding season with 43 ground balls, a team-high 30 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers. Freshman Deanna Hauser (East Northport, NY, Commack) has also put together a solid rookie season with 33 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.

Lock Haven, the Western Division's number one seed, received a first round bye after going 14-1, 9-1 in the conference. The Lady Eagles are looking to repeat as conference champs after defeating West Chester last year 13-10 to end a three-year championship game drought to the Golden Rams. Lock Haven has won four conference titles.

The Lady Eagles are led offensively by Leigh Titus, the PSAC's leading goal scorer with 4.07 goals per game. She recently broke the conference scoring record with career 257 goals and is close to becoming the conference's all-time point scorer. She is joined by Allison Berger (5.33 points per game – second in PSAC) and Kayleigh Johnson (4.87, fourth). Katie Zichelli, last season's Division II Defensive Player of the Year, leads Lock Haven's defense, as she has conference-highs in ground balls with 69 and caused turnovers with 56 and is fifth in the PSAC with 40 draw controls.

In the other semifinal matchup, eighth-ranked Gannon, which upset number four Mercyhurst 15-9 on Tuesday, will play sixth-ranked West Chester at 1:00 p.m. The Golden Rams finished the season 16-0, 10-0 in the PSAC East, and look to win their 21st conference title. The Huskies fell to WCU 13-10 in each of their two matchups this season. Gannon went 11-6 in the regular season, 6-4 in the conference. The winners of the semifinal games will meet on Saturday at noon for the conference championship.
