ERIE—The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team lost to Mercyhurst College, 78-65, on Sunday in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) crossover game.
With the score tied 4-4 in the early going the Lakers went on a 7-0 run to go on top 11-4. The Huskies rallied and tied the game at 15-15 with 10:28 to go on in the half.
Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD, Snow Hill) and
Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport, Williamsport) each scored four points in the Huskies 11-4 run.
After Mercyhurst briefly regained the lead the Huskies got back-to-back three-pointers from
Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown, Norristown) to take their first lead of the game at 21-16. The Huskies would stretch their advantage 27-18 with 5:03 to play in the half on a layup from
Larry Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton) III (Elkton, MD, Elkton). The Lakers finished the half though on 13-2 run and led at the break, 31-29.
In the second half the Lakers opened an eight point lead before a basket by Christmas and two free throws from
Jesse Betar (Altoona, Altoona) made it a four-point game at 44-40 with 14:30 to play. Mercyhurst though would slowly build the lead to double digits and finished with a 13-point margin of victory.
Jordan led the Huskies, now 4-8, with 22 points, while Johnson added 15 and Christmas chipped in with 12. Mercyhurst, 9-3, got 31 points from Heiden Ratner with Shelton Jackson getting 15.
Bloomsburg will begin PSAC East play on Wednesday hosting Millersville on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
