No. 1 Field Hockey Dominates No. 3 West Chester, 8-1

BLOOMSBURG- The Number one nationally ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team improved to 12-0 on the season as they downed the number three Golden Rams of West Chester University on Saturday afternoon, 8-1. With the win the Huskies improve to 5-0 in the PSAC East, while West Chester drops to 9-3 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.

The Huskies controlled the first half of play as they controlled the ball in the Golden Rams defensive half. Bloomsburg was able to fire nine shots in the first half, while only allowing three shots by West Chester.

Nicole Bruce (Dalton, Lackawanna Trail) broke into the game only five minutes into action when Jaclyn Beasley (Berlin, NJ, Eastern)passed the ball from the top of the arc to Bruce down on the right side of the net, putting the Huskies up 1-0.

Amanda Riley (Tannersville, Pocono Mountain East) gave the Huskies a 2-0 halftime lead as she tipped in a goal after receiving a pass from Betsy Renn (Herndon, Line Mountain) at the 11:26 mark.

Riley would keep things rolling in the second half as she put BU up 3-0. Riley would find the back of the cage on her own, putting the ball to the left side of the net.

Brooke Simonovich (East Stroudsburg, Stroudsburg) would get into the action next for Bloomsburg as she scored off a West Chester team deflection in front of the net.

Simonovich would put the Huskies up 5-0 at the 43:47 mark with back-to-back goals. Candice Smith (Selinsgrove, Selinsgrove) would be credited for the assist as she fired a hard shot which Simonovich would redirect for the score.

West Chester would score three minutes later when Kayla Gluchowski put one if off a pass from Alisha Moran, making the score 5-1.

With less than two minutes later Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top, Crestwood) would score as she put one past the Golden Rams goalie off an assist from Lauren McGinley (Wilkes-Barre, Coughlin), giving the Huskies a 6-1 lead. DiSabatino would have back-to-back goals after knocking one in on off a hard shot to the left side of WCU's goalie Kristin Arnold.

Bloomsburg scored their eighth and final goal of the contest with a little less than eight minutes to play. Sandy Anceravage (Bloomsburg, Bloomsburg) would score the final Husky goal as Felicia Domenici (Kunkletown, Pleasant Valley) passed the ball to Anceravage for a high goal to the back of the cage.

The Huskies offensive provided 18 shots compared to West Chester's eight. BU goalie Meghan Hollenbach (Blandon, Fleetwood)registered the win today as she recorded four saves on seven shots. Megan Eppley (Camp Hill, Camp Hill) also saw time in goal, making one save. West Chester goalies got a lot of action as starting goalie Arnold made five saves, while Gabby Panasiewicz recorded one.

Bloomsburg will be back in action on Tuesday, October 11 as they travel to Millersville for another PSAC East match-up.
Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
