Football Concludes 2011 Regular Season with 34-3 Win

BLOOMSBURG—Sophomore running backs Eddie Mateo (Bethlehem/Freedom) and Franklyn Quiteh (Tobyhanna/Pocono Mountain West) paced the no. 21 ranked Bloomsburg University Huskies (9-2) past the Bald Eagles of Lock Haven (0-10), 34-3.  Mateo rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown while Quiteh gained 120 yards on the ground.  Quiteh is now ranked fifth on BU's all-time rushing list with 3,207 career rushing yards.

Today's contest marked the final regular season game for the Bloomsburg Huskies and will wait to see if they will make the field for the NCAA playoffs.  The Huskies entered today's game with a regional ranking of six.  

Prior to today's start, the Huskies honored their 13 graduating seniors as they were walked out by their families.  The following seniors were recognized: Vince Browning (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin), Pat Carey (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp.), Matt Cox (Lewisberry/Red Land), Tyler Guise (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley), Daryl Kurtz (Milton/Milton), Pat Michael (Fairview/Fairview), Justin Rivera (Bethlehem/Liberty), Oscar Rivera (Bethlehem/Liberty), Ryan Olaf (Danville/Danville), Dave Onorato (Hummelstown/Bishop McDevitt), Jeff Owsley (Aston/Sun Valley), John Pettine (Gilbertsville/Archbishop Carroll), and Mike Wagner (Hershey/Hershey).

The Huskies opened the first quarter by scoring 10 points.  Dan Fisher put Bloomsburg up 3-0 with a 43 yard field goal at the 10:12 mark.  Fisher's 43 yarder tied his career long which was set last year against IUP on September 18, 2010. 

Bloomsburg's other score came in the form of a one-yard keeper by Pat Carey (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp.) at the 7:04 mark.  It was Carey's second rushing touchdown of the season. 

In the first quarter alone, Mateo and Quiteh combined for 125 rushing yards.  Defensively the Huskies were great in the first, limiting Lock Haven to 25 yards and forced three punts

Bloomsburg scored three times in the final 5:04 of the second quarter to take a commanding 27-0 leading entering halftime.  Dan Fisher connected on a 34 yard field goal at the 5:04 mark to make it 13-0. Kyle Fisher (Denver/Cocalico) made it 20-0 after receiving a handoff on a reverse, scoring from 46 yards out. 

After Lock Haven turned the ball over on downs, the Huskies took over at their own 40 with 1:10 left in the first half.  Pat Carey (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp.) orchestrated an eight play, 60 yard drive in which the senior completed five of eight passes, capping the drive with an 11 yard touchdown pass to Matt Marchioni (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine).  BU carried their 27-0 lead into halftime.

The Huskies started with the ball at their own 41 in the third quarter after a 26 yard kick-off return by DJ Robinson (Sinking Spring/Conrad Weiser).  Mateo got the carry three straight plays for 26 yards after a Pat Carey (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp.) incompletion, bringing the ball to the Lock Haven 33.  Bloomsburg alternated pass and rush plays with Mateo ending the drive with a 15 yard touchdown, his 12th rushing touchdown of the season.  BU now held a 34-0 lead.

Lock Haven got on the board on their next possession after a 20 yard return and a 15 yard facemask penalty gave the Bald Eagles the ball at their own 49.  From there, Brandon Brader rushed for 27 yards along with a 26 yard completion from Jarrett Kranzer to Jay Hartman, setting up a 21 yard field goal attempt.  Noah Heimer connected on the try, bringing the score to 34-3 with 6:27 left in the third. 

Neither team produced a score for the remainder of the game, resulting in a 34-3 win for the Bloomsburg Huskies. 

Eddie Mateo (Bethlehem/Freedom) and Frankly Quiteh led the Huskies to the 31 point win as they rushed for 136 and 120 yards respectively with Mateo scoring a touchdown.  Pat Carey (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp.) went 10-of-21 for 104 yards and one touchdown while scoring one rushing touchdown as well. 

Senior back-up quarterback Mike Wagner (Hershey/Hershey) completed two of three passes for 19 yards.  Matt Marchioni (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) caught four passes for 35 yards and a touchdown while Ryan Dickerson (Harleysville/Souderton) and Ryan Maggs (Beech Creek/Central Mountain) each had 26 yards receiving. 

Defensively the Huskies were led by Dylan Spangler (Waynesboro/Waynesboro)'s six tackles, 1.5 going for a loss and a half of a sack.  Vince Browning (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin), Ryan Olaf (Danville/Danville), Jarrett Pidgeon (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional), and Andre Glover (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) each had five tackles on the day. 

For Lock Haven, Brandon Brader rushed for 122 yards on 34 attempts, while QB Jarrett Kratzer completed 7 of 22 passes for 93 yards. Defensively the Bald Eagles were led by Marc Olivio's 10 tackles, seven solo and three assisted.
