STATE COLLEGE—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team lost to the defending NCAA Division I champion Penn State Nittany Lions on Sunday by a score of 39-3.
 
In the opening match of the day 18^th-ranked Nico Megaludis won by fall over Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks) to put the host team up 6-0. Bloomsburg's Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central) then posted a 2-0 win over Derek Reber to make it a 6-3 match. Wilcox and Reber were scoreless through the first two periods when Wilcox took down to start the third. Wilcox then worked a reversal for the only scoring of the match.
 
At 141 pounds Penn State's Samuel Sherlock won by decision over Matt Rappo (Holland/Council Rock South), 10-5 before number one-ranked Frank Molinaro, a runner-up at last year's NCAA championships, won by tech fall over Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley), 16-0.
 
In a battle of ranked wrestlers, 12^th-ranked Dylan Alton bested 14^th-ranked Frank Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC/E.A. Laney) from Bloomsburg, 10-8. In the match Alton went up 10-5 in the third when Hickman scored an escape then got a takedown to close to within two. But Hickman could not turn Alton for back points and ended up falling by two points.

Then at 165 pounds Penn State's David Taylor, ranked number one this season, pinned Kevin Hartnett (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) in 2:21 before Ed Ruth, ranked second at 174, beat 20^th-ranked Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) of the Huskies by decision 10-4. At 184 pounds Quentin Wright, defending national champion and top-ranked this season at 184, won by fall over Bloomsburg's freshman Mike Mirra in 1:55.
 
At 197 pounds PSU's Morgan McIntosh, ranked 10^th, beat BU's Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown), 6-0, before fifth-ranked Cameron Wade scored an 8-0 win over Zac Walsh (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls).
 
Bloomsburg, 2-2, with both losses to nationally ranked teams, will wrestle at the Body Bar Invitational on Saturday.
