Lacrosse Team Tops Kutztown, 12-4

BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team saw eight players score on its way to a 12-4 win over Kutztown University, a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent, on Tuesday at Sports Stadium.

Bloomsburg took an early 1-0 behind a free position goal from Allie Kakareka (Royersford, Spring-Ford). Kutztown fired one back at the 21:37 mark to tie up the game at 1-1.

The Huskies then scored the next six goals leading into the half to put the Huskies up 7-1.

Kutztown opened the second half with a goal to put the score at 7-2. With 17 minutes left in the game, Kelsey Schwan (Burnet Hills, Burnet Hills-Ballston Lake ) scored off a pass from Kakareka. Kelsey Metzler (Schwenksville, Perkiomen Valley) would score at the 14:57 mark to put the Huskies on top 9-2.

The Golden Bears then scored two of the next five goals to narrow the gap to 9-4 with 11 minutes to play. Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim, Springfield) scored off a pass from Metzler to give the Huskies a 10-4 lead with 7:1 to go. 

Sam Mazzie (Barto, Boyertown) would fire two goals to the back of the net to give the Huskies a 12-4 final.

Shelby Iezzi (Pottstown, Owen J. Roberts) finished with four saves for the Huskies, now 3-1. Offensively, Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) scored three times, while Aubrey Bossert (Ambler, Wissahickon) and Metzler added two for the Huskies. Kakareka and Metzler would each add two assists on the day.

Bloomsburg travels to West Chester next Monday for a 4 pm start.
