BLOOMSBURG—In their season debut, the Huskies rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie the score late in the game and then scored another pair in overtime to lift the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team over Seton Hill University, 10-8, Wednesday at Sports Stadium.

In the game's opening minutes, junior Samantha King (Elkton, MD/North East) put Bloomsburg on the scoreboard first, connecting on a shot just 1:27 into the first half. Sophomore Sarah Bennett (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) was credited with the team's first assist of 2011.

Little more than a minute later, junior Allie Kakareka (Royersford/Spring-Ford) scored her first goal of the season off an assist by sophomore Kelsey Metzler (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) to give the Huskies a quick 2-0 advantage.

Just over 10 minutes into the period, Laura Hambruch responded for the Griffins, but Kakareka answered back 23 seconds later to make the score 3-1. King picked up her first assist of the season on the goal.

With 11 minutes to play, Seton Hill cut the lead to one, as Ashley White scored on a free-position shot. White then assisted Morgan Cain with four and a half minutes remaining, knotting the score 3-3.

Shortly before halftime, Emma Simmers scored for the Griffins on a pass by White, and Seton Hill carried a 4-3 edge into the intermission.

After the break, Cain added her second goal to put her team up 5-3.

Sophomore Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) shifted the momentum in Bloomsburg's favor with a free-position goal to make the score 5-4. A minute and a half later, Metzler equalized the score with an unassisted goal.

With the score tied 5-5, Seton Hill kept up the pressure. Stephanie Lazzaro connected on another free-position shot, and Cain scored her third of the day, building a 7-5 lead for the Griffons 16 minutes to play in regulation.

Tia Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) made a free-position shot for BU, but Rachel Hilbert scored from Laura Hambruch, advancing the score to 8-6.

With less than two minutes remaining, both of the Mazzie sisters, Sam and Tia, scored their second goals of the day, connecting on free-position shots within 30 seconds of each other. With the score equalized 8-8, Bloomsburg fought off some tense last-second plays to send the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Lyndsey Babilon (Boyertown/Boyertown) scored on a pass from T. Mazzie to put the Huskies ahead for the first time since the opening period. Metzler scored her second goal of the day in the final seconds of the first half of overtime to clinch Bloomsburg's 10-8 victory.

In goal for the Huskies, Shelby Iezzi (Pottstown/Owen J. Roberts) recorded nine saves, while Nadine Wallace had 10 for the Griffons.
