BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team lost to #4 Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon by a score of 13-6 in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) matchup.
The Lady Eagles jumped out on top 2-0 eight minutes into the game when Kate Smyth scored back to back goals. Bloomsburg answered though a minute later when
Sarah Bennett (Gilbertsville, Boyertown) scored off a pass from
Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim, Springfield), making the score 2-1. Lock Haven would fire back with another goal in less than 30 seconds.
At the 16:31 mark
Samantha King (Elkton, MD, North East) would score off a free position shot to narrow the gap to 3-2. In the last 15 minutes of the half, Lock Haven would go on a 5-0 run, closing the half leading 8-2.
Bloomsburg started the second half with goals by
Tia Mazzie (Barto, Boyertown) who scored off a pass from Canavan and
Lyndsey Babilon (Boyertown, Boyertown), with Bennett assisting, to make it an 8-4 game with just less than 20 minutes to play.
Lock Haven would score the next two goals before
Sam Mazzie (Barto, Boyertown) and Canavan scored back to back, both off a free position shot, to make it 10-6 game.
With less than eight minutes left in the half, the Lady Eagles would find the back of the net three more times, to end the game by a score of 13-6.
Canavan, Bennett, King, Babilon and the Mazzie sisters would each add a goal for the Huskies, while
Sara Bates (Wading River, NY, Shoreham-Wading River) would record eight saves on the day.
Bloomsburg, 5-4, 2-2 in the PSAC, will travel to Mercyhurst on Tuesday for a 4 p.m start.
