Lacrosse Suffers First Loss of Season at Molloy

Box Score

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.--Allie Kakareka (Royersford/Spring-Ford) posted five goals for the Huskies, but her efforts were not enough to prevent the Bloomsburg University (1-1) women's lacrosse team from falling at the hands of Molloy College (2-0), 16-12, on Sunday.

Molloy drew first blood 13 seconds into the game, but Kakareka responded in the first minute with a free-position shot to tie the score at 1-1.

Molloy then scored three of the next four goals before BU's Lyndsey Babilon (Boyertown/Boyertown) found the back of the net on back-to-back goals, evening the score at 4-4. Babilon finished with four goals on the day.

Four more goals were scored by Molloy in the first half, and the efforts of BU's Kakareka and Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) kept the Huskies' deficit low, 8-6, at halftime.

Babilon and Monica Novielli (West Chester/Rustin) scored goals early in the second half to narrow the gap to 9-8.

Kakareka added two more goals through the half-way point of the game, and Bloomsburg trailed 11-10 with just under 16 minutes to play.

Molloy broke open the game with four straight goals over five minutes, and the lead was too much to be overcome. Samantha King (Elkton, MD/North East) netted a late goal for the Huskies, and Kakareka rounded out her scoring late in the game as Molloy staved off the visiting Huskies, 16-12.

The Huskies continue their roadtrip with a visit to Bentley University on Tuesday, March 8 at 4 p.m.
