Dessino's win came in dramatic fashion. With the score tied 1-1 late in the third period, he made a move on his opponent and brought Alex Meade of West Virginia to the mat with an apparent match winning move. The officials though ruled the takedown occurred after the horn blew ending the match.
In overtime though, Dessino picked up a the takedown with just five seconds to go claiming his first EWL title. “I thought I had the takedown there at the end of regulation,” said Dessino. “I knew if I could do it once, I could do it again. Fortunately I was able to and won the title.”
Stutzman was thrilled for Dessino and his whole team.
“Mike had a great win and as a team I thought we wrestled very well,” said Stutzman. “In the pre-season we were picked to finish sixth so this shows how hard the team has worked.”
