Samantha King (Elkton, MD/North East) scored four goals, but it wasn't enough as 13th-ranked Bloomsburg University fell to Shippensburg University,8-6, in overtime, in women's lacrosse action.
The Lady Raiders held the early edge in the game jumping out to a 2-0 lead just 2:29 into the game. Bloomsburg finally got on the board nearly nine minutes into play when King scored the first of her goals. The junior would follow that goal with two more over the next seven minutes to put the Huskies up 3-2.
Bloomsburg closed out the half with its fourth straight goal, this one from
Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown), to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.
Shippensburg came out and tied the score just two and a half minutes into the second period, then scored two more goals to lead 6-4 with less than 20 minutes to play.
The game would stay 6-4 in favor of the Lady Raiders till King scored the Huskies first goal of the second half with 4:37 to play. Then with less than a minute to play Bloomsburg's Amber Schifflett scored off an assist from Lindsay Kupferschmid to knot the game at 6-6 and force overtime.
In the first three minute segment of overtime there was no score with Shippensburg getting of two shots to none for the Huskies. In the second three minute portion the Lady Raiders scored 38 seconds, then scored again less than a minute later to seal the win.
Bloomsburg goalie Sara Batest stopped nine shots in the loss. The Huskies, now 6-6, 3-4 in the PSAC, host Millersville on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the regular season home finale.
