SLIPPERY ROCK—A school record by the men's 4 x 400 relay team and second place finish in the women's Steeplechase highlighted the final day of action for Bloomsburg University at the 2011 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) track and field championships at Slippery Rock University.
The men's 4 x 400 relay team of
Cal Rosenstein (Shohola/Delaware Valley),
Jessie Mustapha (Philadelphia/University City),
Jared Arnold (Philadelphia/Engineering & Science ) and
Devin Barr (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) finished in 3:16.82 breaking a mark set 34 years ago of 3:19.6. The mark is one of the two oldest relay records at Bloomsburg in events that are still contested.
Highlighting the day for the Bloomsburg women was a second place finish for
Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove/Bishop McDevitt) in the 3,000 meter Steeplechase. Filemyr ran the race in 11:17.83 to earn eight team points for the Huskies.
In addition to the men's 4 x 400 record-setting run, Barr just missed a spot on the podiu seventh place finish in the 200 meter dash in 22.64 seconds, while in the men's Steeplechase
David Moyer (Boyertown/Boyertown) was 13th in 9:57.54. In the pole vault competition Matthew Stuck earned points for the Huskies with a mark of 13'11 ¾” (4.26m) good for seventh overall.
On the women's side,
Katie Meck (Dillsburg/Northern) earned points in two more events bringing her meet total to three. Meck was seventh in the 3000 meter final in 10:15.49 and also had an eighth place finish in the 1500 meter race in 4:40.10. Meck also scored points for the Huskies in the 5000 meter race on Friday and is already the school record holder in all three of those events.
In the 200 meter dash final
Jessica Shisler (Port Matilda/State College Area) was eighth in 26.40 seconds, while in the discus
Emily Backel (Dillsburg/Northern York County) was 10th with a throw of 105'2” (32.06m).
Both the men's and women's teams improved on last year's performances at the PSAC championships with the men scoring 15.5 points (4.5 a year ago), while the women totaled 20 points, up from seven last year.
