Men's Indoor Track Team Wins Class of 32 Invite

HAMILTON, NY—Jessie Mustapha (Philadelphia/University City) of the Bloomsburg University men's indoor track team broke the school record for the 400 meter dash as the Huskies won the Class of 32 Invite at Colgate University.  Bloomsburg had four individual winners and one team win as the Huskies took first place in the six team event.

Head Coach Bernie Empie on today's event:
“I was very happy with our teams today.  For only our second meet back after Christmas break, we are making good improvements.  The energy and enthusiasm our athletes showed today really started to get contagious as the meet progressed.  One good performance seemed to fuel another as both teams watched their team points pile up.  I am excited for our teams to race next week at the GaReat facility in Geneva, OH.  It is a 300m indoor track and should create some very fast times.”

Jessie Mustapha (Philadelphia/University City)'s 400 meter dash time of 50.15 was second best at the meet but broke BU's school record of 50.44, which was set by Mustapha last year.  Devin Barr (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) would have broken BU's school record with his third place time of 50.34 as the two runners totaled 14 points for the Huskies.

Cal Rosenstein (Shohola/Delaware Valley) took first in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:06.33 while teammate Marvin Carter (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Regional) took third at 1:07.03.  Freshman Nick Libbi (West Chester/West Chester East) added eight team points for the Huskies with a second place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:49.07.

The 4 x 400 meter relay resulted in another first place finish for the Huskies as the team of Barr, Carter, Mustapha, and Rosenstein pumped out a time of 3:29.66 for 10 team points.

In the pole vault, Bloomsburg placed four of the top five finishers.  Matthew Stuck took home first place honors with a score of 4.25 meters.  Stephen Grib (Vernon, NJ/Vernon) was second at 4.10 meters and Dominic Mannello (Northumberland/Shikellamy) was third with 3.95 meters.  Bobby Turner (Landisburg/West Perry) came in fifth with a jump of 3.65 meters.

Jack Rosenstein (Shohola/Delaware Valley) took home first and second place honors in the shot put and the 35 pound weight throw.  In the shot put, Rosenstein won it with a throw of 13.55 meters and in the 35 pound weight toss he threw for 14.36 meters.

Bloomsburg's final first place finish came in the long jump.  Grib came in first with a jump of 6.24 meters; teammate Earvin Paul (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) was second, jumping 5.87 meters.

The Huskies will be back at it on Saturday, February 4 as Bloomsburg participates in the Division II Challenge at the GaReat facility in Genva, OH.
