Wrestling Team Sweeps Four Matches at NC State Duals

RALEIGH, NC—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team swept all four matches on Saturday at the North Carolina State Duals. The Huskies beat Campbell, 35-9; Anderson (SC), 44-9; Gardner-Webb 39-3; and the host team N.C. State, 19-12.
 
It was also a successful homecoming for Wilmington, NC native Frank Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC/E.A. Laney), ranked sixth at 157 pounds, who won all three of his matches and improved to 20-2 on the season. Hickman also improved his winning streak to 18 straight matches.
 
In match one of the day the Huskies used a win by fall, technical fall and three major decisions to roll to an easy win over Campbell. Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex), at 174 pounds, picked up the win by fall for Bloomsburg pinning James Cook in the second period, while 125-pounder Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks) scored a win by technical fall winning 19-2.
 
Against Anderson University of South Carolina the Huskies won four of their eight matches by fall. Elliott Zackoski at 125 pounds started the match with a win by fall in 2:19, while Kevin Hartnett (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) at 165, Luke DeLuise (Mt. Bethel/Pius X) at 184 and Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) also won by fall.
 
In the Huskies win over Gardner Webb Bloomsburg recorded two more wins by fall with Craig Barker (Lecanto, FL/Citrus) at 133 pounds and Derek Shingara (Shamokin/Shamokin) at 141 pounds posting the wins.
 
The Huskies final match of the night was their toughest as the pulled out a 19-12 win over the Wolfpack. Bloomsburg trailed 6-4 after three matches, then won the next four bouts to lead 13-6. NC State pulled to within a point at 13-12 with victories at 174 and 184 pounds. But, Bloomsburg closed out the match with victories by Perry at 197 and heavyweight Zac Walsh (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls).
 
Bloomsburg improves to 11-3 overall and have won nine straight matches. The Huskies return to the Nelson Field House on Wednesday hosting Millersville starting at 7 p.m.
