Field Hockey Team to Host Milersville in Playoffs

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University field hockey team will begin its quest for a conference-record fifth straight title on Tuesday when it hosts Millersville University in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) quarterfinal playoff game. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Sports Stadium.
 
Tickets are $7 for adults and $2 for students and seniors. All students from PSAC schools are free with valid ID.
 
The Huskies have won the last four conference titles and are tied with Lock Haven, which won four straight titles from 1979-1982, as the only two schools to win four consecutive crowns. (The Huskies also won four straight titles from 1990 to 1993.) Overall the Huskies have won a PSAC-best 18 titles with Millersville claiming two titles.
 
This will be the sixth PSAC post-season matchup between the Huskies and the Marauders with the last coming in 1992 when the Huskies scored a 1-0, overtime, victory in the semi-finals. As a team the Huskies are making their 31st appearance in the conference playoffs in the 33-year history of the event. Millersville is making its 10th appearance in the PSAC post-season tournament and the first since the 1993 season.
 
Bloomsburg, 14-4, will be the second seed from the East after posting a record of 8-2 in conference play. The Huskies come into the post-season on a three-game winning streak after falling in overtime to Millersville on Oct. 9.
 
Leading Bloomsburg offensively are three seniors, Brooke Simonovich (East Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg), Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood) and Amber Aulenbach (Fleetwood/Oley Valley). Simonovich scored a team-high 15 goals during the season and added two assists for 32 points. DiSabatino finished second in goals with 14 and added four assists to tie with Simonovich for the team lead in points. Aulenbach also hit double digits in goals with 11 and added a team-best seven assists.
 
As a team the Huskies scored 59 goals getting at least one goal in every game except the loss to Millersville.
 
Defensively the Huskies have allowed 26 goals on the season and permitted an average of just 11 shots per game.  Leading the defense this season has been Jaclyn Beasley (Berlin, NJ/Eastern), Samantha Facciolla (Holland/Council Rock South) and Gabriana Nisiotis. In goal Megan Eppley (Camp Hill/Camp Hill) has a goals against average of 1.45 with 94 saves and four shutouts.
 
Millersville, 12-6, will be the third seed from the East after compiling a mark of 7-3 in divisional play.  During the season the Marauders snapped a 23-year losing streak to the Huskies beating Bloomsburg 1-0, in overtime. In the 23-year streak Millersville had gone 0-31-2 against the Huskies. Earlier in the year the Huskies had knocked off Millersville 1-0 at Millersville.
 
The Marauders offense is led by Ashley Weber who has five goals, while Katelyn Zapp and Samantha Ruane each have four goals and one assist for nine points. Overall, 13 players on the Millersville have scored a goal.
 
In the cage for Millersville is Lauren Sotzin who has started all 18 games and has posted a goals against average of 1.03 with a .822 saves percentage.  Sotzin has six shutouts on the season.
 
The winner of the game will move on to the PSAC semi-finals on Friday at West Chester to face Shippensburg, the top seed from the west.
