EDINBORO—
Stephen Grib (Vernon, NJ/Vernon) set a school record in the Heptathlon on Sunday to highlight the second and final day of action at the 2012 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Championships at Edinboro University. The Huskies as a team finished in seventh place.
Grib, already the school record holder in the event, broke his mark of 4,493 (set at last year's PSAC Championships) by finishing the two-day event with 4,699 points and taking third place overall. On day two Grib was second in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.77 seconds and first in the pole vault in 4.15 meters (13'7 ¼”). Grib's mark was also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
In the high jump
Earvin Paul (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) tied for third in 1.92 meters (6'3 ½”), while in the 200-meter dash
Devin Barr (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) was fourth in 22.38 seconds with
Nick Libbi (West Chester, West Chester East) taking sixth at 3,000 meters in 8:43.02.
“The men had a great meet,” said head coach
Bernie Empie. “We scored some points in a few events that surprised me and left a few points on the track. Our nationally ranked 4x400 had a relay leg get hurt, so they weren't able to capitalize on their opportunity. Despite that one hiccup, we couldn't have asked for a while lot more. I am very proud of how our team responded this weekend.”
The Huskies finished seventh overall with 33 points after finishing last a year ago with 7.50 points.
