VIDEO OF HICKMAN-FLEMING MATCH

BLOOMSBURG—The #12 ranked (NWMA Mid-Major Division I)Bloomsburg University wrestling team dropped a close 22-18 decision to #25 (NWMA) Clarion University on Friday in an Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) matchup.

The loss dropped the Huskies to 14-6 on the season, 1-3 in the EWL, while improves to 2-6, 1-3 in the EWL.

The match came down to the heavyweight bout between Bloomsburg's Zac Walsh (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) and Clarion's Quintas McCorkle. With Clarion holding a 19-18 lead in the match, McCorkle was able to hold off Walsh winning by a score of 3-2 and sending Clarion home with the win.

Bloomsburg led early in the match jumping out to an 8-0 behind a win by technical fall from Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks) and a win by decision from Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central).

Later with the Huskies leading 8-7, the feature match of the night was between two nationally-ranked opponents in the Huskies Frank Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC/E.A. Laney) and Clarion's James Fleming. After two scoreless periods it looked like Hickman would be score some points. However Fleming was able to get three back points and held on for a 5-3 win.

Bloomsburg also got a win from Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) at 174 pounds who won by fall and Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) was 197 who won by major decision setting up the showdown at the end.

The Huskies are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. hosting Cleveland State.
 
Match by Match—
125—Bloomsburg's Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks) struck first with a takedown over Golden Eagle's Trey Hicks, making the score 2-0. Late in the first Boylan twice picked up three back points to end the first in control. Boylan opened up the second period with an escape and a quick takedown. Boylan picks up three back points to end the second period with a 14-0 lead. Boylan opens up the third period with a takedown to end the match with a Tech Fall in 5:33.

133—Clarion's Joe Waltko struck first with an early takedown, but Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central) of Bloomsburg reacts with an escape. Waltko ends the first period in front 2-1. The second period remains 2-1 in favor of Waltko. Wilcox kicks off the third with an early escape and a takedown to take the lead 4-2. Wilcox picks up a 5-2 decision with riding time.

141—Clarion's Tyler Bedelyon opens up the match with a takedown over Bloomsburg's Derek Shingara (Shamokin/Shamokin). Shingara earns an escape, but Bedelyon answers with a takedown ending the first up 4-1. Bedelyon earns two back points followed by a Shingara reversal. Bedelyon escapes and takes down Shingara ending the second with a 9-4 lead. The Golden Eagle's Bedelyon opens up the third with an escape. Bedelyon finishes the third with an escape and a takedown, winning the match by a 13-4 major decision with riding time.

149— Clarion's Cameron Moran starts the match with a takedown and two back points against Bloomsburg's Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley).  Busler earns an escape and a takedown late in the first making the score 4-3 in favor of Moran. Busler escapes to tie the score, but Clarion's Moran responds quickly with a takedown. The second period ends with Moran on top 7-4. Late in the third Busler earns a takedown; Moran answers with an escape and is awarded riding time to end the match in a 9-6 decision.

157— The first period ends scoreless between Bloomsburg's Frank Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC/E.A. Laney) and Clarion's James Fleming.  The second period remains scoreless battle with both wrestlers being cautious. Fleming started the third with three back points. Hickman then earned a takedown; however Fleming escaped to end the match in 5-3 decision with riding time.

165—Clarion's Bekzod Abdurakhmonov  came out of the gates with a takedown over Bloomsburg's Kevin Hartnett (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) to control the first period 2-0. Abdurakhmonov unravels the second period with an escape and a takedown maintaining a 5-0 lead. The third period begins with an escape by Hartnett, with Abdurakhmonov responding by takedown and ending the match by pin fall in 6:29.

174—The Golden Eagle's Nick Milano comes out strong in the first with a take down and three back points, to be countered by a Huskie's Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) reversal.  Shortly after, Dessino earns a Pin fall in 2:55.

184—Steven Cressley of Clarion jumped out early with a takedown. Huskies Sam Shirey (Beaver Springs/Midd-West) closes the gap with an escape to end the first down 2-1. Cressley opens the second with an early escape to remain in control 3-1. Shirey starts the third strong with an escape, but isn't enough to hold on. Cressley wins by 3-2 decision over Shirey.

197—Bloomsburg's Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) starts off the match with a barrage of takedowns with Clarion's Alex Thomas escaping every time and a takedown to end the first 9-6. Perry begins the second with an immediate reversal. Perry earns two reversals to Thomas's one escape to pull ahead 13-8. Perry begins the third with yet another escape and a reversal with Thomas adding an escape. Perry closes the match with an 18-9 major decision.

HWT—The first period ends with a score of 0-0 between Bloomsburg's Zac Walsh (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) and Clarion's Quintas McCorkle. The second period opens with Walsh earning an escape only to be taken down shortly after. Walsh ties it up 2-2 in the second with a late escape. In a nail biting third period, McCorkle comes out strong with an early escape to hold on in a 3-2 victory.
