Box Score BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG—Nnamdi Njoku (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) of the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team (16-6, 12-5 PSAC) ignited the Huskies to a 21 point win over the Raiders of Shippensburg (8-15, 5-12 PSAC), 75-54.  Njoku finished with 18 points, going 7-for-8 from the field including a 4-for-5 mark from three point range.  The Huskies are now in sole possession of first place in the PSAC East.

After making their first field goal attempt of the game at the 19:08 mark, BU would miss their next 14 shots before making another basket nearly 13 minutes later.  However, Bloomsburg would shoot 40.7% in the first half and 53.3% in the game.

Shippensburg came into tonight's game as the PSAC's best shooting team, making 49.4% of their shots.  A combination of poor shooting and good defense by the Huskies forced the Raiders to shoot 37.7% from the floor, their second lowest percentage of year.

Both teams got off to a slow start as they struggled to score the ball, leading to a 10-4 Shippensburg advantage with 7:34 left in the first half.  From there Bloomsburg pieced together a 10-0 run as Larry Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton) and Njoku scored four points apiece.

The Huskies would eventually take a 22-17 lead into halftime.  Webster played a key role in the first half for Bloomsburg, scoring eight points and grabbing six rebounds.  Njoku and Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) chipped in another four points while Johnson added three assists.

Bloomsburg opened the second half by outscoring Shippensburg 8-2, stretching their lead to 30-19.  BU would hold a 10 point lead with 14:16 to play in the second half but would go on a 15-4 run to take a commanding 50-29 lead.

Only two BU players scored during the 15-4 run.  John Schwarz (Delta/Perry Hall) scored six of his game's 10 points during that time, all six points coming on layups.  Njoku was the other player to score for the Huskies as he knocked down three trays for nine points.

Bloomsburg's lead was never in jeopardy as their lead only dropped to as low as 17 points.  The Huskies' 25 point lead at the 3:04 mark was their largest of the night as Bloomsburg claimed a 75-54 win.

Njoku tied his career best with 18 points while Webster added another 12 points and eight rebounds.  Schwarz scored double digits for the seventh time this season as he contributed 10 points.

Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) scored nine points while assisting on five other baskets which included a jaw-dropping alley-oop to Webster.  Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport) added eight points and six boards while Johnson scored six and assisted on four others.

For Shippensburg, Dylan Edgar led the team with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including a 4-for-4 mark from the charity stripe.

Bloomsburg will be back in action this Saturday, February 11 as the Huskies host West Chester in PSAC East action.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
