Buckhannon, W.Va.—The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team rolled to an easy 25-1 win Sunday afternoon over West Virginia Wesleyan.
The Huskies wasted little time getting on the board scoring just 1:01 into the game when
Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim/Springfield) scored unassisted. Just 43 seconds later
Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) scored to make it 2-0.
Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) then scored consecutive goals to make it 4-0 just 4:06 in the contest. Bloomsburg would score 13 more goals to lead 17-0 at the break.
In the second half the Huskies made it 18-0 when
Patrice Coleman (Media/Penncrest ) scored before the Bobcats would finally break through the Bloomsburg defense and score with 20:45 to go in the game. The Huskies came back and added seven more goals and went on to the victory.
In goal
Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) and
Shelby Iezzi (Pottstown/Owen J. Roberts) each played one half of action for the Huskies, while defensively the Huskies allowed just eight shots on goal for the game.
In all 16 players scored for Bloomsburg led by Mazzie's three goals, while Falk,
Morgan Sherriff (Downingtown/Coatesville),
Aubrey Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon),
Amber Shifflett (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake),
Lindsay Kupferschmidt (Royersford/Spring-Ford) and
Amanda Jaynes (Quakertown/Pennridge) all scored two each for Bloomsburg.
The Huskies, 2-2, play at Kutztown University on March 20 in the PSAC opener.
