Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Adelphi

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team lost to top-ranked Adelphi University, 20-6, on Monday afternoon in the season opener for the Huskies.. 

Adelphi went up 2-0 in the game before the Huskies Samantha King (Elkton, MD/North East) scored unassisted to make it 2-1. Later with the Panthers leading 5-1, the Huskies scored two of the next three goals on the three-time defending national champions. Patrice Coleman (Media/Penncrest ) scored on a free position shot and King added her second goal of the game to close the gap to 6-3.

Adelphi though added to its lead and led 12-3 at the break. In the second half goals the Huskies got goals from Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) and two from Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown).

King and Mazzie each scored two goals apiece while Coleman and Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) added one each.  Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) made nine saves in goal against last year's top scoring team in Division II in just under 55 minutes of work between the pipes. 

Bloomsburg will host Georgian Court this Wednesday, March 7th.  Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Sports Stadium in Bloomsburg, PA.
