BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team lost to Dowling College, 17-10 in a non-conference matchup at Sports Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Golden Lions of Dowling College grabbed control of the game early scoring just 26 seconds into the first half, putting them up 1-0. Dowling would go on to score the next two goals over the first five minutes of the game, giving them a 3-0 lead.
The Huskies would score their first of the half at the 24:29 mark off an unassisted goal from
Samantha King (Elkton, MD/North East).
From there Dowling scored three straight goals to increase their lead to 6-1. With 16 minutes left in the half,
Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) would add one for the Huskies off an assist from
Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon), to put the score at 6-2.
Dowling came back 11 seconds later to put in a goal for the Golden Lions, bringing their lead up to 7-2. With almost three minutes later the Golden Lions would commit a foul, giving the Huskies a chance of the free-position attempt.
Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) would score for the Huskies off the free-position shot, making the score 7-3.
King would add her second goal of the day off an assist from Amber Shifflet, cutting Dowlings lead to 7-4 at the 6:53 mark. Dowling would add the next goal at 3:16, giving them a four point lead.
Bloomsburg and Dowling would trade goals with under two minutes left in the half. Shifflet would add the goal for the Huskies off an assist from
Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon). However, Dowling would close the half with a goal, giving them the 9-5 lead.
In the second half,
Natalie Draham (Blue Bell/Wissahickon) would score the first goal in under two minutes, cutting the Golden Lions lead to 9-6. Dowling would score the next goal at the 27:47 mark, followed by two consecutive goals from the Huskies to put the score at 10-8.
Carly Ball (Lansdale/North Penn) scored once off an assist from Mazzie, while Mazzie had the other goal from an assist by Falk.
The Golden Lions would go on to score six straight over the next 15 minutes to gain a 16-8 lead. Bloomsburg would score two goals to Dowlings one in the final four minutes of the game. Bloosmburg would outscore Dowling 29-27, but unfortunately Dowling would go on to win the game 17-10.
Ball finished the day with with three goals, while Mazzie and King each added two a piece. In goal,
Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) recorded five saves for the Huskies.
Bloomsburg, 4-7, 2-4, will host Shippensburg University tomorrow at Sports Stadium in a PSAC match-up. Game time is set for 4 pm.
