BLOOMSBURG—
Justin Shirk (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) threw an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the javelin to highlight day two action of the Husky Open at Bloomsburg University.
Shirk, throwing in his first home competition of the year, threw 65.10 meters (213'7”) to surpass the NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 65.02 meters.
Additionally five other members of the Huskies team posted PSAC-qualifying marks during the day.
In the 800-meter run the Huskies had three new qualifiers.
Marvin Carter (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Regional) won the race in 1:56.71, while
Kyle Phillips (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) was second with a qualifying time of 1:57.47.
Zach Eyer (Berwick/Berwick Area), who previously had qualified for the PSAC's in the 800, was third in 1:58.24, while
Bryan Hennessey (Lower Gwynedd/Pennridge) was fourth in 1:58.25 to earn a spot at the PSAC championships.
At the 400 meter hurdles
Cal Rosenstein (Shohola/Delaware Valley) was first with a PSAC-qualifying time of 57.53 seconds, while in the high jump
Earvin Paul (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) was first with a PSAC championship qualifying mark of 1.90 meters (6'2 ¾”).
At 1500 meters
Nick Libbi (West Chester/West Chester East) was first in 4:05.02 with
Kyle Phillips (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) second in 4:11.15, while at 400 meters
Jessie Mustapha (Philadelphia/University City) was first and lowered his PSAC qualifying time to 49.68.
