MILLERSVILLE—Freshman
Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) broke school records for points in a game and assists in a game to lead the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team to a 25-8 win over Millersville University on Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup.
Falk, a native of Millersville, scored five times and has eight assists, breaking the old mark of five, scoring a total of 13 points, breaking the old mark of 10. The old record in assists was set by Michele Baylor in 1998, while the record in points was set by Georgia Carinci in 2004.
Millersville jumped out to the early 2-0 lead just two minutes into play. After Bloomsburg got on the board at 27:13 when
Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) scored on a free position shot, Millersville made it 3-1 less than a minute later.
The Huskies though would rally in a big way scoring nine of the game's next 10 goals.
Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim/Springfield) got things going for the Huskies with a goal, then, assisted on
Samantha King (Elkton, MD/North East)'s first goal to make it 3-3. Millersville briefly regained the lead before the Huskies rattled off the next seven goals to lead 10-4.
In the rally Falk and
Natalie Draham (Blue Bell/Wissahickon) each scored two goals while Canavan had a goal and an assist. Millersville finally stopped the run by scoring with just under 10 minutes to go before halftime.
Bloomsburg though would score the next four goals, with King getting two of them, to lead 14-5 before a goal by the Marauders with a second to go before the break make it a 14-6 lead for the Huskies.
The second half of play was all Bloomsburg as the Huskies allowed just two goals and dominated statistically allowed just four shots and forcing 11 Millersville turnovers.
The Huskies opened the second scoring the first five goals of the period with Mazzie collecting two. After Millersville scored twice sandwiched around a Bloomsburg goal, the Huskies closed out the game with five straight scores. Falk scored two of the five goals and assisted on the other three.
Along with Falk scoring five goals, King also scored five times with Mazzie getting four goals and Canavan three.
In goal
Shelby Iezzi (Pottstown/Owen J. Roberts) made four saves for the Huskies.
Bloomsburg, 6-7, 4-4 in the PSAC, will host Edinboro on Friday at 4 p.m.
