BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team defeated Slippery Rock, 13-11 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Saturday at Sports Stadium.
Prior to the game the Huskies honored their two seniors:
Samantha King (Elkton, MD/North East) and
Lindsay Kupferschmidt (Royersford/Spring-Ford).
Bloomsburg jumped out to the early 2-0 lead just four minutes into play. Bloomsburg got on the board at 26:02 when
Samantha King (Elkton, MD/North East) scored off an assist from
Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor). Falk then score the second goal for the Huskies three minutes later off a free position shot. After The Rock added a goal to put the score to 2-1 at the 21:48 mark.
The two teams would then trade goals after Sam King added a goal for the Huskies, followed by another goal from Slippery Rock to make it 3-2. The Rock would then tie up the game at the 17:29 mark.
Bloomsburg would score the next two goals to take the lead 5-3. Falk would score off an unassisted goal, while
Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) would add a goal off an assist from Falk. The Rock would then cut the Huskies lead to just 5-4 with 10 minutes to go in the first.
Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim/Springfield) would score her first goal of the game at the 7:01 to put the Huskies up 6-4. Slippery Rock would add another goal with under five minutes left to end the first half at 6-5.
The second half of play began with two straight shots from the Huskies before rain took over to put the game at a delay. Canavan and Mazzie would each score a goal a piece to give Bloomsburg a 8-5 lead.
After the delay had passed the play had resumed with a goal for The Rock with 21:41 left to play. The two teams would go on to trade goals, with Falk scoring for Bloomsburg and putting the score at 9-7.
Bloomsburg would then come back to score yet another goal from King off a free position shot with under 17 minutes to go. Slippery Rock would then go on to score two straight goals to cut the Huskies lead to just one at 10-9.
The Huskies would come back to score two of their own to increase their lead at 12-9. King and
Natalie Draham (Blue Bell/Wissahickon) each added a goal in the two minutes of scoring. With under seven minutes left in play The Rock would two more goals, but the Huskies would also add another and would win the game 13-11.
The senior, King would lead the Huskies to a victory with five goals on the day, while Falk had three goals. Canavan and Mazzie would each add two and Draham recorded one.
Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) in goal made five saves in the Huskies victory.
Bloomsburg, 7-7, 5-4 in the PSAC, will host East Stroudsburg in their last regular season match-up on Thursday, April 26 at 4 pm.
