Huskies Basketball Takes on Mansfield Wednesday Night

BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University men's and women's basketball teams close out a brief, two-game road trip at Mansfield University Wednesday, Jan. 23 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.  Tipoff at Decker Gymnasium for the women's game is set for 5:30 p.m. with the men following at 7:30 p.m.
 
The game will be broadcast live on WHLM (930-AM) based out of Bloomsburg with Jim Doyle and Larry White calling all the action. In addition, listeners throughout the world can listen to the game live on BU's website at www.buhuskies.com. The pre-game show will begin 20 minutes before tipoff.
 
WOMEN
 
MATCH UP: The Huskies have won five in a row and have not allowed an opponent to score more than 55 points during their winning streak.  Bloomsburg has won the previous seven meetings against Mansfield and has not lost at Decker Gymnasium since Feb. 4, 2009. Both wins last season came by single digits.
 
BU'S LAST TIME OUT: Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored a team-high 19 points to lead three players in double figures as Bloomsburg beat Cheyney, 80-45, on Saturday afternoon.
 
MU'S LAST TIME OUT: Junior Jena Matter paced Mansfield with 10 points, senior Kayla Espigh knocked down three treys on her way to nine points and sophomore Alyssa DeRichie added eight points, four boards, and four assists as Mansfield fell to Shippensburg, 87-63.
 
NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT: Bloomsburg is ranked 21st in this week's USA Today Division II Top 25 poll.  It has been ranked in the top 25 in each poll since the second week of the regular season.
 
DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE: Bloomsburg leads the PSAC in defensive field goal percentage (.335) and is second in scoring defense (57.3).  BU has not allowed 50 points in two straight games, and has not had a stretch of three in a row of holding an opponent under 50 points since the 1997-98 season.
 
Quick Six:
-- Bloomsburg leads the PSAC and is 14th in Division II in scoring (75.7).
-- Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) is second in the PSAC in scoring (15.1) and 2nd in 3-point percentage (.380).
-- Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) can play in her 100th career game.
-- Bloomsburg leads the PSAC in free throw percentage (76.2).
-- Oxenrider (88.4) and Wieller (87.0) are 2nd and 3rd in the PSAC in FT%.
-- BU moved into sole possession of first place in the East last weekend.
 
MEN
MATCH UP: The Huskies close out a two-game road trip before returning home for two
straight.  BU owns a 98-71 lead in the all-time series against Mansfield and swept the series last season including an 81-60 win at Decker Gymnasium. 
 
BU'S LAST TIME OUT: Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) finished with a game-high 28 points and Nasir Jones (Philadelphia/Franklin Learning Center) finished with seven points and five rebounds as Bloomsburg lost to Cheyney, 72-54, on Saturday.
 
MU'S LAST TIME OUT: Joe Bell topped four Mountaineers in double-figures with 18 points, Charles Becoats added 14 points and Chuck Harper recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game- and career-best 13 rebounds, but Shippensburg's jumper with 38 seconds remaining lifted Shippensburg to a 79-76 win over Mansfield on Saturday.
 
LIGHTS OUT LORENZO: Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) is 12th in the PSAC at 15.2 points per game.  Christmas' 2.6 three-pointers per game are second in the PSAC, and his 35.1 percent from beyond the arc ranks seventh in the PSAC.  He is fourth on the Bloomsburg all-time three-pointers list with 142. He has also made a three-pointer in 25 straight games.
 
Quick Six:
-- Zach Sheetz (Landisville/Hempfield) has made a three-pointer in each of his six starts this season.
-- Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) has made a three-pointer in 25 straight games.
-- Bloomsburg is shooting 40.5% from the field in the final five minutes.
-- Charles Haigler (Charles Town, WV/Hargrave Military Academy) is fourth in the PSAC in assists (4.1) and ninth in steals (1.7).
-- Christmas is 12th in the PSAC in scoring at 15.2 per game.
-- BU is second in the PSAC in three-pointers made per game (6.7).
