INDIANA, Pa. – An overtime goal from Laura Gerhard (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) sent the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory at Indiana (PA) on Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) competition.

The triumph secured a playoff berth for the Huskies in the upcoming PSAC Tournament. Bloomsburg ranks fourth in the conference standings following Tuesday's play.

Gerhard's game winner came at the 79:22 mark and was set up by a penalty corner from Jaclyn Beasley (Berlin, NJ/Eastern). Beasley's pass from the right wing was deflected and Gerhard was able to push her shot to the left of the IUP keeper and give the Huskies victory.

With the win Bloomsburg improves to 11-6 on the year and 6-3 in PSAC play. IUP, meanwhile, falls to 7-10 and 4-5.

Bloomsburg got the scoring started with 20:39 elapsed when Sam Peters (Yeagerstown/Mifflin County) scored her fifth tally of the season unassisted following a breakaway. The IUP goalie knocked the ball loose, but Peters regained control in front and fired it past her for the 1-0 lead.

IUP would tie the game just under six minutes later when Kate Bruce tallied her 10th goal of the season with a shot into the left side of the cage.

Neither team could break the deadlock in regulation and a scoreless second half moved the contest to overtime and set the stage for Gerhard's heroics.

The Huskies outshot IUP by a 9-3 margin and allowed just one shot from the Crimson Hawks during the second period and no shots on goal following intermission. Megan Eppley (Camp Hill/Camp Hill) earned the win with one save in the cage.

Just one contest remains on the Huskies' regular season slate as they travel to Erie and a date with Mercyhurst on Saturday, Nov. 2.
