MATCH NOTES
BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University wrestling team will begin to wrap up its regular season with the first of two home matches starting with Lock Haven on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Nelson Field House. Bloomsburg will close out its regular season on Thursday, Feb. 21 against Binghamton.
The Huskies, ranked 17th this week by USA Today, dropped a close 18-16 decision to the Rutgers Scarlett Knights last Friday snapping the team's eight-match winning streak. Bloomsburg rebounded on Sunday with a 39-0 drubbing of George Mason. With a win against Lock Haven Bloomsburg will claim its first-ever, outright EWL Dual Meet Title. The Huskies shared the title in 1993 with Lock Haven.
Lock Haven is 6-5 on the year, 1-3 in the EWL. The Bald Eagles are coming off a win over local rival Bucknell, 23-16, last weekend. Lock Haven picked up five wins on the night, including Harry Turner's late-pin and a tech fall from Fred Garcia, which helped earn the thrilling road-win and snap a three-match losing skid. Lock Haven dropped three straight EWL matches losing to Edinboro, Pitt and Clarion before beating the Bison. For his efforts Turner was named the co-EWL Wrestler of the Week.
"This is a rivalry that goes back a long time," said Huskies head coach John Stutzman. "These matches are always tight and they mean a lot to the alumni, fans, and our entire wrestling program. You can throw all the records out the window as this is going to be a dog fight. They are coming off a big win vs. Bucknell University and they are having a good season."
